Dear Friend,
We are extremely happy to have received your letter and your warmest thoughts from thousands of miles away. We thank you and congratulate you for the work that you and the friends of the Kurds have done relative to our freedom. We appreciate it very much.
Although we may seem to be the victims of the March 2, 1994, "civilian" coup that ended our public lives as the representatives of the Kurds, the real blow was inflicted on the Kurdish people's will which was subjected to utter disrespect by the Turkish government. In that sense, our imprisonment is in many ways synonymous with the denial of our people's rights and we believe one cannot be separated from the other.
Again, we thank you and wish you success. Please convey our gratitude to all those who help.
With kindest regards,
Leyla Zana
