Who I am

I am an American, born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Traverse City, Michigan.

I am twenty-three years old.

What I have done

I graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1996 with a B.A. in Film and Video Studies.

I spent my junior year of college studying abroad in Seville, Spain.  I learned Spanish and vowed to learn at least three more languages.

After graduating, I went to Turkey in November 1996.  I spent seven months living and teaching English in Istanbul.  I learned Turkish.  I married a Kurd from Diyarbakir, Turkey and in the interim I learned the depth and dimensions of Turkeyís genocide of the Kurds.

My husband and I moved to Washington, D.C.  I got a job with the American Kurdish Information Network.  I am working to help the Kurdish people realize their age-old dream of peace and freedom.

What I like

I like gardening, something I inherited from my parents who have a greenhouse business.

I like going to the movies.

I love animals, especially cats.

I love art and beauty in all their forms.

I want to learn Kurdish (Kurmanji).
