Who I am
I am an American, born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Traverse City, Michigan.
I am twenty-three years old.
What I have done
I graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1996 with a B.A. in Film and Video Studies.
I spent my junior year of college studying abroad in Seville, Spain. I learned Spanish and vowed to learn at least three more languages.
After graduating, I went to Turkey in November 1996. I spent seven months living and teaching English in Istanbul. I learned Turkish. I married a Kurd from Diyarbakir, Turkey and in the interim I learned the depth and dimensions of Turkeyís genocide of the Kurds.
My husband and I moved to Washington, D.C. I got a job with the American Kurdish Information Network. I am working to help the Kurdish people realize their age-old dream of peace and freedom.
What I like
I like gardening, something I inherited from my parents who have a greenhouse business.
I like going to the movies.
I love animals, especially cats.
I love art and beauty in all their forms.
I want to learn Kurdish (Kurmanji).
